New Release: 4.8 with stand alone form components

Happy to announce 4.8 with stand-alone form components that enables the usage of elements like inputs, switches, checkboxes without the need of wrapping them into an actual form.

When we first released forms back in 2015 we wanted to make the usage as simple as possible. The initial approach was to wrap plain inputs, dropdowns, checkboxes into an mbsc-form and enjoy the magic. Mobiscroll knew that everything inside the form needs to be enhanced.

That worked and still works pretty well, but as more people started using it a couple of things emerged:

  • In a lot of cases people only wanted to partially enhance their page and leave other parts as they were.
  • People came to Mobiscroll with existing projects and they didn’t want to do a complete overhaul, just add a new segmented control or a switch or maybe change the look & feel in certain sections.

As we learned about this it became obvious that forms in not just great for brand new pages or apps. It is also is a great tool to enhance certain aspects of existing apps.

We broke everything out from under forms, and while it is still possible to make great looking forms by simply wrapping everything under and mbsc-form, it is not required anymore. You can use inputs, fields, radio buttons, segmented controls, sliders, buttons … as stand alone elements.

Take a look at this example of the various use cases for form elements.

As always, this release is available for download to all customers who have an active maintenance. You can also update through NPM if that is how you get your libraries.
